Results of the calibration of neutron soil probes of different designs (geometry) in containers in relation to the profile of a loess-chernozem

, : Results of the calibration of neutron soil probes of different designs (geometry) in containers in relation to the profile of a loess-chernozem. Archiv fur Acker und Pflanzenbau und Bodenkunde 21(4): 319-325

Probes of different design were inserted into containers filled with soil layers artificially prepared from loessial chernozems, and were calibrated by means of three regression equations. A linear equation was as satisfactory as were two quadratic equations, in one of which soil density was considered. A probe in which the neutron source is below the counting tube gave more accurate results for the top layer of soil than did other designs.
