Results of the recording over several years of parturition and calf losses in four experimental herds

, : Results of the recording over several years of parturition and calf losses in four experimental herds. Tierzuchter 29(6): 248-252

Of 4332 calvings in 1965-76 at 4 experimental farms in the German Federal Republic, 47.8% required no assistance, 32.0% required some assistance by 1-2 persons, 17.3% required considerable assistance by 2-3 persons, and 2.9% required veterinary assistance. The incidence of dystocia was 35.4% for heifers v 12.2 for cows, and 24.2% with male calves v 16.1% with female calves. The incidence of dystocia increased with increasing body weight of calf and gestation length.
