In Albania, sunflowers sown in autumn had more uniform germination and a better supply of moisture than plants sown in the spring. Autumn sowing also resulted in a denser stand and avoided irrigation which was usually necessary with spring sowing. Yields were higher and, because labour was cheaper between Dec. and Mar., production costs were lower.
