Results of two years of research on swine vesicular disease (in France)

, : Results of two years of research on swine vesicular disease (in France). Proceedings of the 20th World Veterinary Congress, Thessaloniki 1976; 3: 2161-2165

Swine vesicular disease (SVD) appeared in France in 1973 and is now notifiable. Observations on symptoms and lesions, diagnosis, viral characteristics, pathogenesis, and persistence of the virus are presented. Complement fixation, fluorescent antibody and neutralization tests enabled differential diagnosis between SVD and FMD. The virus remained virulent for 8 days in the tissues of the infected pig and was still detectable in excretions and secretions after 3 months.
