Among eight varieties cultivated in field conditions in four successive years, Severokavkazskii surpassed all others in green yield at the first cut and in annual total, though in second and third cuts it was consistently outyielded by F. K. Montpelier. The leaf : stem ratio was highest (43.8% leaf in the first cut, 66.9% in the second) in a Macedonian local population and was lowest in F.
