Khorozov, S.; Gateva, R.; Bobev, R., 1977: Results of work on the colonization of ant hills of red wood ants. Gorsko Stopanstvo 33(8): 25-29
Work in Italy, Germany and the USSR on the establishment of artificial colonies of red ants (Formica spp.) for forest protection is reviewed. Experiments were made on the establishment of colonies of F. lugubris at five different places in Bulgaria. The colonies were established in conifer stands, mainly Pinus sylvestris, at altitudes between 650 and 1050 m, suffering from attack by various insect defoliators.
