Retention and leaching of halide ions, particularly fluoride, in soils and uptake by rice seedlings

, : Retention and leaching of halide ions, particularly fluoride, in soils and uptake by rice seedlings. Journal of the Science of Soil and Manure, Japan Nippon Dojohiryogaku Zasshi 46(1): 9-18

Retention of 18F by soils was greater than that of 36Cl, 82Br and 131I. 18F was largely leached from an alluvial soil, but almost completely retained by a volcanic ash soil. Since volcanic ash soils are highly permeable, it is suggested that they may be of use in removing F from drinking water supplies.Uptake of ions from solution into rice seedling shoots during one hour was in the order Br more than or equal to Cl much more than F more than or equal to I.
