Retention and utilization of minerals by veal calves

, : Retention and utilization of minerals by veal calves. Zuchtungskunde 48(2): 108-116

For 3 groups of calves of mean weight 58, 99 and 155 kg, carcasses were dissected, distinguishing fat, flesh, bone and sinew, and whole body less gut and bladders. During growth from 60 to 100 kg liveweight the calves had a diet of milk substitute with crude protein 23%, and from 100 to 160 kg 20%, with starch equivalent 1020 to 1045 g/kg. The 2 diets contained Ca 1.25 and 1.07, P.0.83 and 0.70, Mg 0.10 and 0.90 (should probably be 0.09), Na 0.37 and 0.38, and K.1.15 and 1.04% in DM.
