Retention of ova in oviducts of senescent mice and hamsters
Parkening, T.A., 1976: Retention of ova in oviducts of senescent mice and hamsters. Journal of Experimental Zoology 196(3): 307-314
Young (3-5 mth of age) and senescent (12-17 mth of age, depending on species) female mice, hamsters and rats were mated with young mature males. Young females exhibited normal numbers of eggs after ovulation and, in general, normal numbers of blastocysts before implantation. On the morning of ovulation, some senescent mice and hamsters, however, exhibited degenerating eggs in the isthmus or isthmic-utero-tubal region of the oviduct, whilst normal eggs were found in the ampulla.
