Retina and dioptric apparatus of the dung beetle Euoniticellus africanus

, : Retina and dioptric apparatus of the dung beetle Euoniticellus africanus. Journal of Insect Physiology, 242: 165-179

Retinal fine structure and optics of the eye of the dung beetle Euoniticellus africanus (Har.) was studied and compared with those of three other scarabaeid beetles: Repsimus manicatus (Swartz), Anoplognathus pallidicollis Blanch. and Sericesthis geminata Boisd. The eye of Euoniticellus, in common with that of the other three species, possesses a dioptric system in which light first passes through a thick optically homogeneous cornea, and then enters a non-homogeneous crystalline cone.
