Retinal degenerations in the dog. I. Rod dysplasia

, : Retinal degenerations in the dog. I. Rod dysplasia. Experimental Eye Research 26(3): 233-253

Rod dysplasia is a recessively inherited photoreceptor disease affecting the Norwegian Elk-hound breed. Rod photoreceptors fail to develop normally; the inner segments are diminutive and the outer segments disorganized and disoriented. The developmental failure is associated with complete absence of electroretinographically recordable rod-mediated responses. Cones develop and function normally.
