During the indoor period 3 groups of 9 Dutch Black Pied cows all received the same basic rations initially, then (i) basic rations unmodified, (ii) basic rations with 50% of the maize silage replaced by cow-parsnip silage, or (iii) basic rations with all the maize silage replaced by cow-parsnip silage. During the ensiling of the cow-parsnip, 30% rye was added.
