Retinol and retinyl esters in pigment epithelium of rats with inherited retinal degeneration

, : Retinol and retinyl esters in pigment epithelium of rats with inherited retinal degeneration. Experientia 32(2): 147-148

Retinas of rats with inherited retinal dystrophy (pink-eyed piebald agouti) were compared with those of normal hooded rats. Assays for retinol and for retinyl esters were done when they were 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 days old. The average retinol content of the retinas, mu g/g wet weight, was then 3.7, 4.1, 4.8, 2.8, 2.2 and 2.0 for the normal and 4.1, 8.2, 9.7, 6.8, 5.4 and 4.1 for the dystrophic rats.
