Retortamonas indica n.sp. from the hind gut of Polyphaga indica at Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India, differs from R. wenrichi, R. aurangabadensis and R. toddi by having a much shorter posterior spike (0.5 to 6.2 mu m, average 2.9 mu m), from R. gryllotalpae by having a poorly developed cytostome without fibrils, and flagella much shorter than the body, from R. phyllophagae by its larger size, smaller cytostome devoid of fibrils, and flagella of different thickness, from R. caudacus by its larger size and much smaller cytostome, and from R. pericoptae by its shorter body, poorly developed cytostome and shorter flagella.
