Revegetation of alumina refinery wastes. 1. Properties and amelioration of the materials

, : Revegetation of alumina refinery wastes. 1. Properties and amelioration of the materials. Australian Journal of Experimental Agriculture and Animal Husbandry 17(87): 679-688

Excess soluble salts (electrical conductivity 30-48 mS/cm), high alkalinity (pH 9.2-11.0) and potentially toxic levels of Na (ESP 49-88%) were characteristic of fly ash and bauxite (red sand and red mud) wastes from the Gladstone alumina refinery. In red sand, N and P levels were extremely low and Zn and Mn marginal; extremely low levels of N and P and a marginal amount of Zn were measured in the red mud.
