Reverse osmosis concentration of separated milk - formation of deposits

, : Reverse osmosis concentration of separated milk - formation of deposits. XX International Dairy Congress, Vol E: 646-647

Deposit formation was studied during reverse osmosis of skim milk at 0.37 to 2.35 m/s. At high velocity flux decreased linearly with concn. but there was little deposit formation. At intermediate velocity, flux decreased rapidly and partially recovered; the conditions favoured gelling of casein micelles with the high ionic strength close to the membrane.
