Review Article. The role of farmyard manure and green manures in soil fertility restoration in the tropics

, : Review Article. The role of farmyard manure and green manures in soil fertility restoration in the tropics. Abstracts on Tropical Agriculture 3(10): 9-17

One of the solutions for the problem of regenerating soil fertility of the Red-Yellow Podzolic soils could be intensive annual cropping with a mixed farming system. Research up to the present indicates that a considerable part of the required N and K for the intensive cropping could be met by including legumes in the crop rotation and by recycling nutrients through the production of good quality farmyard manure by stall feeding cattle with crop residues.
