Review of progress of biological control of weeds in Australia, including Lantana, Crofton weed, Noogoora burr and Baccharis

, : Review of progress of biological control of weeds in Australia, including Lantana, Crofton weed, Noogoora burr and Baccharis. Proceedings of the 2nd International Symposium on Biological Control of Weeds, Rome, 1971: 4-10

Noogoorah bur (Xanthium pungens). (See also WA 20, 1284). The insect Nupserha autennata is firmly established at 4 liberation sites in Australia; at Pine Hill, Queensland, 40% of plants appear to be attacked over an area of >100 acres. Baccharis halimifolia (groundsel-bush). The leaf beetle Trirhabda baccharidis shows most promise as a control agent; larvae consume all flowers and foliage. Adults also cause significant damage in spring.
