Extensive tests were carried out in England in 1970-73 to evaluate the effectiveness of various compounds for the protection of sugar-beet seedlings from damage by soil pests, especially the beetle Atomaria linearis Steph. and the millepedes Brachydesmus superus Latzel and Blaniulus guttulatus (Bosc). The compounds were applied to the seed furrows.
