Sexual and olfactory preferences of naive and experienced male hamsters

, : Sexual and olfactory preferences of naive and experienced male hamsters. Animal Behaviour 26(2): 611-621

Olfactory preference tests, in which the odours of a pair of anaesthetised stimulus animals (Mesocricetus auratus) were presented in a 2-choice olfactometer, revealed that both sexually inexperienced and experienced males preferred female (oestrous and dioestrous) to male odours, but did not discriminate between the odours of receptive and non-receptive females.
