Sink-source relationships during reproductive development in maize. A review

, : Sink-source relationships during reproductive development in maize. A review. Maydica 22(2): 49-75

Sink-source relationships during the various stages of reproductive development are considered in relation to improvement of grain yield. Genotypic differences are mentioned and desirable characteristics of genotypes which should give maximum yields in sink-limiting or source-limiting environments are discussed. In regions with a short season where there is a source limitation, genotypes are required with high leaf area per plant, extended leaf duration after silking and lodging resistance.
