, : Situation and evaluation of agriculture and food supplies in Latin America. Economic Bulletin for Latin America 19(1/2): 87-117

The article is in five distinct sections. (1) The introduction, includes a summary of the main conclusions; (2) situates agricultural activity within the general economic context, special attention being given to the role played by agriculture in the development of the countries of the region; (3) covers the structure and evolution of agricultural production in recent years; an analysis is given by product in the crop-raising and livestock sub-sector and a general picture is drawn of the situation of fishery and forestry activities; (4) concerns the availability of productive resources in the region and discusses some institutional questions; (5) briefly surveys the most important recent changes on the international markets for agricultural commodities and analyzes the influence that such changes are exerting on the regions.
