Soybeans. Glycine max

, : Soybeans. Glycine max. Evolution of crop plants: 159-162

Current evidence points to the eastern half of northern China as the area in which this crop was first domesticated, about the eleventh century BC. Dispersal to southern China, Korea, Japan and south-east Asia probably took place during the expansion of the Chou dynasty, approximately 1100 to 300 BC. Soya bean was known in Europe during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and was first mentioned in United States literature in 1804.
