Studies on rice straw silage - effects on moisture content of rice straw on fermentative quality and intake of silage by dairy heifer

, : Studies on rice straw silage - effects on moisture content of rice straw on fermentative quality and intake of silage by dairy heifer. Bulletin of the National Grassland Research Institute (9): 16-24

With decreasing moisture content of rice straw, the production of organic acids and the ratio of volatile basic N to total N in silage declined gradually, while pH of silage rose. By addition of water at ensiling to low-moisture rice straw, the fermentative rate of silage was promoted significantly. The contents of water-soluble carbohydrate of low-moisture silages were larger than those of high-moisture or water-added silages because of the better fermentative rates of the latter silages.
