Studies on the digestibility of proximate principles and mineral utilization in growing buffalo calves (Bos-bubalis) on rations containing urea as a partial protein substitute

, : Studies on the digestibility of proximate principles and mineral utilization in growing buffalo calves (Bos-bubalis) on rations containing urea as a partial protein substitute. Indian Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics 12(12): 399-403

To study the effect of prolonged use of urea, buffalo calves 8 to 12 months old were fed on a basal ration including barley, wheat bran, linseed oilmeal and oats or the basal diet with 10, 20 or 30% of the required digestible crude protein replaced by 0.5, 1 and 1.5% urea. The diets were isocaloric. There was no ill effect during 52 weeks of feeding; the average weight gain was about 400 g/day in all groups.
