The inadequacies of traditional surgical techniques have prompted development of a method offering an improved approach route to the pelvic organs. The forelimbs and head of the anaesthetized horse, lying on its side on a low-platform operating table, are tied securely and the hind limbs hoisted vertically and splayed; the genital area is then easily approached.
