Surgical management of radial physeal growth disturbance in dogs

, : Surgical management of radial physeal growth disturbance in dogs. Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association 167(11): 1011-1018

Dogs with distal lateral radial physeal closure often develop forelimb lameness. Passive manipulation of the elbow or valgus deformity causes pain and, later, ligamentous injury or osteoarthritis of the carpus or elbow causes permanent pain. The condition should be anticipated when a young dog damages its radius and ulna. If radial head subluxation begins, surgical treatment should commence immediately.
