In trials with TCA and dalapon using lupin plants, TCA increased the RNA level in plants for 96 h after treatment; ribonuclease showed a corresponding increase in activity for 24 h followed by declining activity turning to severe inhibition after 240 h. The increase in RNA synthesis was not accompanied by a corresponding increase in protein synthesis and, in fact, herbicides reduced protein synthesis.
