The distribution of silicon deposits in the rhizomes of two Andropogon species

, : The distribution of silicon deposits in the rhizomes of two Andropogon species. Canadian Journal of Botany 52(6): 148-156

2 perivascular deposition sites for Si were detected in rhizomes of field samples of Andropogon gerardii and A. scoparius by electron-probe microassay. Si was confined to several layers of cells immediately outside the stele and occurred as Si aggregates restricted to the inner tangential walls. These Si-accumulating cells were similar in position, shape and wall thickness and Si deposition to the root endodermal cells of the same spp.
