The effect of shortened heifer rearing on intensification and rationalisation of milk and meat production

, : The effect of shortened heifer rearing on intensification and rationalisation of milk and meat production. Zivocisna Vyroba 21(2): 95-101

Shortened rearing time for heifers was studied in relation to herd turnover, herd structure, meat output per day of life, milk production per cow up to 2000 days and for 4 lactations, average herd age and age of heifers at calving, market price of culled heifers, and comparison of meat and milk outputs for different proportions of first-calvers in the herd. The heifers calved at the ages of 21, 24, 27 and 30 months.
