The effect of soil humidity and texture on the growth and development of purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.)

, : The effect of soil humidity and texture on the growth and development of purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.). Revista COMALFI 3(4): 257-275

C. rotundus from four different areas of Colombia (Valle, Cordoba, Magdalena and Tolima) was grown at 5 different levels of soil moisture (saturation and 100, 75, 50 and 25% of field capacity). No differences in growth and development were observed between plants from the different regions but soil moisture level had an effect. Highest aerial d.m. production, shoot, inflorescence and tuber number were obtained with soil moisture levels above 75% field capacity.
