Use of girth measurement for estimating weight of mountain goats

, : Use of girth measurement for estimating weight of mountain goats. Journal of Wildlife Management 39(4): 705-708

Measurements of length, girth and weight were made on 27 mountain goats (Oreamnos americanus) captured in a pen trap in Montana during 2 years and regression equations were calculated for weight as a function of length and girth. Two such equations, involving the product of length and girth, or length X the square of the girth, were obtained. They appeared to give accurate estimates of weight, regardless of sex or age.
