Variation in estrogenic-like substances in red clover and alfalfa as related to environment, varieties and stage of growth

, : Variation in estrogenic-like substances in red clover and alfalfa as related to environment, varieties and stage of growth. Dissertation Abstracts International, B 34(11): 5281-5282

Isoflavin content of lucerne and red clover was the same in fresh material and oven-dried samples if the drying temperature was <80 deg C. Some variation in isoflavin content between cultivars was found. Isoflavone was highest in leaves just before flowering then decreased and only small amounts were present in stems and petioles. Long photoperiod and low temperature increased isoflavone content. Highest isoflavin concentrations were in folded leaves.
