Variation in native populations of eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis L.) as influenced by geographic location

, : Variation in native populations of eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis L.) as influenced by geographic location. Proceedings of the Florida State Horticultural Society 1977; 89: 370-373

Plants of C. canadensis grown from seed collected from native trees throughout the natural range showed considerable morphological variation. Characteristics usually associated with xeric conditions: increased pubescence, thicker and smaller leaves, and efficient stomatal geometry were correlated with evapotranspiration trends over the natural range, reaching extremes in southwestern and western populations.
