A method for observing the hereditary lethal effect in protozoa

, : A method for observing the hereditary lethal effect in protozoa. Tsitologiya 20(6): 700-704

A new method for assessing hereditary lethal changes in protozoa populations (tested on Amoeba proteus and Paramecium caudatum subjected to sub-lethal X-ray doses) is described. The technique consists of prolonged observation of individual lines and their renewal from sister cells as the majority of a line is dying. The technique records general cell death and division, as well as rates of cell death insignificant to the total populations.
