Association of flagellated protozoa with marchitez sorpresive (sudden wilt) disease of oil palms in Ecuador

, : Association of flagellated protozoa with marchitez sorpresive (sudden wilt) disease of oil palms in Ecuador. Proceedings of the American Phytopathological Society 1978; 4: 137

Tissue samples from specimens of Elaeis guineensis from Ecuador showing symptoms of sudden wilt disease were found to contain uniflagellate protozoa which are described from electron microscope observations. The protozoa were found in mature sieve elements, in immature frond bases, unopened inflorescences and from the trunk just below the apical meristem, but were not found in tissue from symptomless oil palm from the same area. There was no obvious blockage of the phloem.
