Bile acid studies in patients with Crohn's colitis

, : Bile acid studies in patients with Crohn's colitis. Gut 20(12): 1072-1077

Bile acids were studied in patients with Crohn's disease, radiologically confined to the colon. The bile acid pool size of 10 patients with isolated Crohn's colitis was significantly less than that of 10 normal control subjects and of 10 ulcerative colitis patients. Measurements of 14C excretion in breath and in 24-h faeces after the administration of 5 mu Ci lycocholate showed normal 14C excretion in breath and usually increased loss of 14C in faeces (more than 7% of the dose).
