Blood characteristics of the adult donkey

, : Blood characteristics of the adult donkey. Zentralblatt fur Veterinarmedizin 25A(7): 541-547

In comparisons of the blood values of 50 female and 50 male donkeys, aged 2-5 years, females had higher mean values for total erythrocytes and sedimentation rates. No reticulocytes were observed in either sex. Females had lower values for leucocyte, lymphocyte, monocyte and platelet counts as well as monocyte diameter. The females also had lower chloesterol and inorganic P values. Hb concentration in females was significantly lower than in males, which also had larger erythrocyte diameters.
