Composting of grain dust

, : Composting of grain dust. ASAE Paper (79-3011): 14 pp

Samples of wheat dust, grain sorghum dust and a mixture of equal amounts of wheat and maize dust at 50 - 60% m.c.(w.b.) were used in a bench composter, a double-wall cylinder (25 cm o.d., 20 cm i.d., 35 cm high) with 2.5 cm thick glassfibre insulation between the walls. A 1.5 mm screen was installed about 2 cm above the bottom to aid aeration and support the compost material. Air was supplied through this plenum at about 500 ml/min and provision was made for mixing the material.
