Deterioration of logs in cold decks: a survey of information applying to the Pacific Northwest

, : Deterioration of logs in cold decks: a survey of information applying to the Pacific Northwest. Forest Products Journal 29(1): 34-40

Estimates of vol. losses due to insects, and stain and decay fungi were 0.5% during the first yr and 5-15% during the second yr of storage in dry decks, for Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), hemlock and true fir Losses in sprinkled decks were 0-10% for ponderosa pine and 0.6 for Pseudotsuga menziesii; losses in sprinkled decks suggest inadequate sprinkling or the inclusion of logs which had already begun to deteriorate.
