Effects of overwintering conditions on winter rye yields in the Udmurt ASSR

, : Effects of overwintering conditions on winter rye yields in the Udmurt ASSR. Byulleten' Vsesoyuznogo Ordena Lenina i Ordena Druzhby Narodov Nauchno issledovatel' skogo Instituta Rastenievodstva imeni NI Vavilova (78): 17-18

In field trials in the N. cis-Ural zone in 1974-6, winter rye was grown under conditions of (a) natural snow (control), (b) snow accumulated by wind barriers, or snow removed on (c) 15 Nov., (d) 25 March or (e) 5 April. Grain yields were reduced under (b) compared with (a) by 0.5-0.9 t/ha because of relatively high temp., about 0 deg C at the tillering node, for a long period, and about 40-50% of plants exhausted their sugar reserves and died.
