Estimating heritability of height growth in young seedlings of Pinus pinaster and P. pinea

, : Estimating heritability of height growth in young seedlings of Pinus pinaster and P. pinea. Italia Forestale e Montana 31(4): 142-157

In an experimental nursery in central Italy 40 wind-pollinated families of P. pinea and 33 of P. pinaster were used to derive estimates of heritability (h2) for ht. growth at the end of the first and second growing seasons. Narrow-sense heritability values were high for P. pinaster (0.47 and 0.66 for one- and two-year-old seedlings respectively) and low for P. pinea (0.27 and 0.07). The standard errors of h2 were low and the heritability estimates are considered quite reliable.
