Feeding fattening pigs by Lehmann's method with skim milk or with yoghurt with or without live lactic acid bacteria

, : Feeding fattening pigs by Lehmann's method with skim milk or with yoghurt with or without live lactic acid bacteria. Journees de la Recherche Porcine en France 1979: 291-298

4 groups of 6 male and 6 female Large White pigs, initial wt. 25 kg, received daily either control diets for growing and finishing or 4 l skim milk or yoghurt, supplemented by barley with vitamins and minerals. The skim milk was prepared weekly and heated at 92 deg C for 20 s before storing at 4 deg C. Total bacterial counts and coliform counts were higher than for raw milk, coliform count rising from 7.9 X 103 to 1.23 X 107/ml during storage.
