Incomplete nursing in the sow

, : Incomplete nursing in the sow. Applied Animal Ethology 5(2): 195-196

This paper was presented at the Winter Meeting of the Society for Veterinary Ethology, held in London, UK on 10 Dec. 1977. An incomplete nursing was distinguished from a complete nursing by the absence of milk ejection. 9 sows with litters were observed in large rooms giving unrestricted movement and 8 sows were observed in typical commercial accommodation with farrowing crates. The same proportion of nursings in the 2 environments were incomplete, approx. 27%.
