Influence of grazing conditions of native and sown pasture on liveweight gain of steers of two breeds (Japanese Black and Holstein)

, : Influence of grazing conditions of native and sown pasture on liveweight gain of steers of two breeds (Japanese Black and Holstein). Journal of Japanese Society of Grassland Science 24(4): 353-357

In Japanese Black and Holstein cattle grazing native and sown pastures during 2 seasons, daily gains on native pastures were 0.30 kg in the 1st yr and 0.48 kg in the 2nd yr for Japanese Black cattle and 0.52 and 0.92 kg, resp., for Holstein cattle; on sown pasture gains were 0.48, 0.51, 0.56 and 0.70 kg, resp. Japanese Black cattle utilized native pasture more efficiently than Holstein cattle.
