A Molinia-dominated sward at 1100 ft alt. was successfully improved by applying lime and phosphate, concentrating cattle on the area in 1968 to remove roughness and expose the soil surfaces and sowing in 1969 with a mixture of 1 part Agrostis, 1 part red fescue, 1 part white clover Kent Wild White and 10 parts perennial ryegrass S24. The sward improved in subsequent yr and total wt. of weaned lambs increased 3-fold by 1976-7.
