Land use in the Uists since 1800

, : Land use in the Uists since 1800. Proceedings, Royal Society of Edinburgh, Section B 77: 505-526

Land use and land tenure in the Uists has evolved over the past two centuries fashioned by the possibilities offered by the varying qualities of soils and terrain and by economic circumstances, estate and government policies. At the end of the 18th century, estate surveys and plans provide a detailed account of the patterns of tenure and land use.

Two experiments explored whether older adults have developed a strategy of compensating for slower speeds of language processing and hearing loss by relying more on the visual modality. The Diego blood group is an exclusive Mongoloid gene marker, although it is not present in all Mongoloid populations. Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is now a serious problem, with traditional classes of antibiotics having gradually become ineffective.
