Mechanized tillage in the growing of oak plantations

, : Mechanized tillage in the growing of oak plantations. Lesnoe Khozyaistvo (4): 30-32

An account is given of a system of mechanized tillage developed for use in weeding oak shelterbelts in the first few years after planting. The trials were made in 1971-75 on an area of 8.4 ha on partially eroded chernozems. The implements used were modified rotary cultivators with tines 100, 120 and 150 mm long and 16-18 mm in diam. The effectiveness of the treatments was determined by the % destruction of various categories of weeds.
