Microvariability of soils in the tropics and its agronomic implications with special reference to West Africa

, : Microvariability of soils in the tropics and its agronomic implications with special reference to West Africa. ASA [American Society of Agronomy] Special Publication (34): 29-43

Causes of microvariability are considered to include lithology, biogenetic variability due to termite mounds and vegetation, and man's activities. The reflection of small changes in soil properties in crop growth is illustrated. Agricultural experimentation in the tropics is hampered by excessive soil microvariability; some approaches to this problem are suggested.
