In a multifactorial experiment, a test group of 8 heifers was milked for 9 periods of 10 days each with different combinations of pulsation rate (40-120/min), milking ratio (52-68%), vacuum level under the teat (290-410 mmHg), effective vacuum (326-374 mmHg) and liner closing vacuum (35-195 mmHg). A matched control group was milked under constant conditions, with 45 pulsations/min, 51% milking ratio, 360 mmHg vacuum under the teat, 345 mmHg effective vacuum and 180 mmHg liner closing vacuum.
